Getting ready for Imbolc together!

Hi everyone,

As we approach Imbolc, I felt called to share a little about this magical celebration.

This time of the year holds such a beautiful energy—one that often goes unnoticed, yet offers so much depth and transformation.

I always find myself amazed by the subtle shifts that begin to stir at this time of year. There’s a gentle sense of awakening in the air—a soft invitation from nature to open to the light returning, to the magic that’s quietly unfolding. I wanted to share this post a few days ahead of the celebration, so that if something within you stirs, you can take a moment to soften, listen deeply, and prepare in a way that honors your own natural rhythm.

What is Imbolc?

Imbolc is a sacred festival that honours the Goddess Brigid, guardian of the hearth, creativity, healing, and new life. Traditionally, it marks the first signs of spring—the very beginning of renewal and fertility, even while much of the world still seems quiet or asleep.

As one of the eight festivals in the Wheel of the Year, Imbolc sits midway between the Winter Solstice (Yule) and the Spring Equinox (Ostara). It represents a subtle but powerful turning point in the seasonal cycle—a time when the light begins to return more noticeably and the earth slowly stirs from its winter rest.

Energetically, Imbolc brings a shift: a gentle awakening. It carries the promise of new beginnings, inspiration, and hope. Many people feel this as a time to plant intentions, cleanse stagnant energy, and rekindle their inner fire.

When is Imbolc celebrated?

  • Southern Hemisphere: August 1st

  • Northern Hemisphere: February 1st

What might you feel around this time?

If you're sensitive to seasonal energies or attuned to inner rhythms, you might already be sensing a shift. Imbolc can stir something subtle but meaningful within us. Some of the signs might include:

  • Vivid or symbolic dreams

  • A sudden desire to declutter or shift your space

  • Emotional clarity or new perspectives

  • A pull toward something new—or the closing of an old chapter

Remember: the energetic shifts of this time may show up differently for each of us. The examples I share are just possibilities—you might experience something entirely your own, and that’s perfectly valid. There’s no "right" way to move through this season. We’re all on our own unique paths and cycles.  🌷

Let’s take a moment to check in 🕯

If you feel called, take a moment now. Maybe with a cup of tea, a notebook, or just a few quiet breaths...

Ask yourself:

  • Did I notice an energetic shift lately? A subtle stirring beneath the surface? A sense that something within me is beginning to move or change?

  • Where am I in my own cycle right now? Am I beginning something new? Letting go of something old? Or simply resting in-between?

  • Do I feel my energy growing, or drawing inward?

  • What do I need in this moment—to feel supported, nourished, and clear?

Allow your answers to arise softly, with ease—there’s no need to force or figure anything out. Simply let them unfold naturally. Let these insights awaken your inner wisdom and gently guide you to a deeper understanding of how you are connecting with the subtle energetic shift of the season.

Ways to honour Imbolc

You don’t need anything fancy to honour this turning of the wheel. Here are a few simple ways to mark the day—feel free to adapt or create your own:

  • Light a candle – Fire is Brigid’s element, symbolizing warmth, inspiration, and returning light.

  • Cleanse your space – Gently clear out what you no longer need. Open a window, sweep the floor, donate old things.

  • Create something – Write, paint, craft, cook. Let creativity flow without pressure.

  • Be in nature – Notice the quiet changes around you. The first buds, a shift in the light, birdsong returning.

Imbolc invites reflection, quiet stirrings, and the slow return of light. For some, it may feel like a beginning; for others, it may feel like a continuation, a pause, or something else entirely. Like a seed beneath the soil, we don’t have to bloom all at once. Just trust the process.

If you’re in Aotearoa (New Zealand) or anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere, mark August 1st as a sacred moment in your calendar. Make time for yourself. Even a few minutes of intention can be deeply meaningful.

As I close this post, I invite you to listen to your own inner wisdom—let your magic guide you toward the kind of celebration that truly honors your path.

Wishing you a magical Imbolc,

Giuliana 🕯️
